The next day I thought I had a reletively easy drive of 800kms into the NWT to Wood Buffalo National Park. The gps stopped counting the kms when you enter the park so I ended up doing another 250 kms to my campsite oh well the drive and scenery were great.
Heading into NWT I stopped in to walk a trail that led to these nice waterfalls "Alexandra Falls". They were impressive.
Finally I made it to the right Park entrance which is just south of Fort Smith.
(Get it. A wood Buffalo)
I was the only person in the entire area. Seriously! It was already a remote area but to also be the only person for 50kms was a bit unnerving. Lol
So I picked the best spot and set up camp.
It was so quiet reading next to the fire. So much so that a loon calling out on the lake scared the "heck" out of me. So much for peace and quiet.
Next morning it was up with the birds. Sunrise was like 4 am. Had a camp breakfast and then headed for the trail. Did a 13 km hike along the lake. It was a very narrow and technical trail thru the woods. About 1 km in I started seeing.....bison scat on the trail. Great all I needed to do was run into a herd of bison on this itty bitty trail.
After the hike a nice looking chick stopped by with her mom and siblings.
The next two pictures are of the famous salt plains.
It was an 11km drive down a single lane dirt road thru a forest that had recently burned.
Oh and there were lots of Buffalo.
I would never get sick of buffalo pictures, so please continue uploading.
ReplyDeleteAnd I hate loons. They come out of nowhere and scare the crap out of me with their red eyes. They are pure evil.
